West Gate Design - David Mezheritsky

David Mezheritsky, a Vancouver native, has founded construction and development company Westgate Design and Development focusing on high-end residential homes in the prestigious Westside and West Vancouver. David lives the casual West-coast style, while integrating elements from his time living in Miami and travelling abroad.

His travels prominently influenced several facets of the design. When residing in Miami, he was inspired by the new Porsche Tower in Sunny Isles, featuring a glass garage in the sky condo to allow views of the luxury cars from the living room. Elements seen in Los Angeles were also painstakingly incorporated, such as the continuous transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, and rooftop dip pools. The spa is inspired by a favourite Berlin hotel. A wine cellar points to a hotel in Hong Kong. And a subterranean entertainment floor is designed in true Macau style. Tying these international details together is an homage to the local landscape - a master bathroom featuring an oversized shower with an expansive window overlooking the breathtaking city and mountain view. At the flip of a switch, the window turns opaque for optional privacy.

Innovation and technology play integral parts in the residence. The home features completely integrated Crestron smart home technology. Detachable wall-mounted iPads on each floor allow the user to control everything in the house from temperature, blinds, lighting settings, entertainment systems, and security settings. The programming allows unlimited settings with one touch, and travel modes. The entire home can be controlled remotely from an iPhone, including gate access and lighting systems.

The lot itself is not large, and design focused on making it appear bigger. The residence is wrapped in glass and sculpted garden areas flow into the home. Several waterfall elements add to the fluidity, as well as the eclipse door systems on both the house and the garage to create the flowing illusion of a larger space.

"It's pretty incredible to see Stanley park, the mountains and your favourite car at the same time," jokes Mezheritsky, "I think we achieved the vision"
